Bloggers for Health: Treat Yo Self (to new stuff, and stuff that is good)

I have been in the worst mood for the past few weeks. Since this past week was my spring break, I decided to focus on doing things that were pleasurable to me and on eating things that would make my tummy happy.

So, I danced...a lot! I danced on three separate dancing occasions--both swing and samba. I got a pedicure; my toes are now the color of the light right around the sun as it sets. I bought books. I napped a lot. I made wholesome, tasty food. (Most of the food came from my pantry or from fridge staples, like the bean burgers and the smoothie, but I treated myself to fancy beets and fancy bulk cereal from the fancy Whole Foods.)

Food:

Big Girls Small Kitchen's White Bean Burgers with roasted golden beets atop a bed of spinach sprinkled with basalmic vinegar (eaten Thursday and Friday).

Smoothie inspired by Joy the Baker's green smoothie (see my version below) (eaten Saturday morning).

I'm still sad and lonely, but at least my apartment is fairly clean, I have produce waiting to be made into soup and salads, I have something good to read (Drown by Junot Diaz), and my abs and quads are aching from exercising. It's springtime and I'm in the moment.

Smoothie "Recipe"

1 cup spinach
1/2 ripe avocado, cut into chunks
1/2 banana, cut into chunks
 1 1/2 c soy milk (I used original flavor/unflavored)
1 small dollop of honey

Put the avocado and the banana in the blender first, as they need more contact with the blades than the other ingredients. Blend until smooth! This makes about 12-14 oz. of beverage (judging by the size of my glass and the leftover smoothie in the blender).

Sorry to hear you haven't been feeling too well. That's never fun. But a green smoothie certainly would brighten a day. Thanks for sharing the recipe! I've never been much of an avocado fan, but I might have to give this a try!
